Before Southern Sound existed, before weddings and dance floors and full hearts — there was music.
And two teenagers who didn’t yet know what love was… but felt it anyway.
We’re U-One and Christelle, high-school sweethearts whose journey began at fifteen, long before playlists were digital and love lived in handwritten letters and carefully crafted mixtapes. Back when music was something you felt — something you gave to someone when words weren’t enough.
Music brought us together, and it’s been the constant thread running through our lives ever since.
A love story with a soundtrack
We grew up in the late ’90s — before smartphones, before shortcuts — when effort mattered.
Mixtapes took hours.
Love letters were written by hand.
And every song carried intention.
Christelle learned guitar from a young age, performing on stages and in concerts, gaining a deep respect for music and discipline — even if her heart always knew it wasn’t the instrument that defined her love for it.
U-One, on the other hand, is a natural. A multi-instrumentalist who can hear a song once and bring it to life without missing a beat. No formal training — just instinct, rhythm, and soul. Music has always lived in him. There was never another path.
After school, bands became part of everyday life. Practices, gigs, late nights, loud stages — Christelle right there as the ultimate groupie, knowing without question that music wasn’t just something he did… it was who he was.
Finding our way back to each other
Like many love stories, ours had moments that tested us. A time apart forced growth, reflection, and a deeper understanding of who we were — individually and together.
During that chapter, Christelle found herself alone on a quiet beach, walking at sunrise, thinking about love, life, and what truly matters. Miles away, in a different country, U-One lay awake with the same thoughts.
And in that stillness, music did what it’s always done — it connected hearts across distance.
A message arrived:
“You are the only one for me. I’m coming home.”
That was it.
Love won.
Building a life — and a brand — together
From there, everything aligned.
Back in Cape Town, music became more than passion — it became purpose. From working alongside well-known artists and festivals to shaping live experiences, the foundation was laid for what would eventually become Southern Sound.
We built a life together, became parents to two incredible daughters, and grew into a partnership rooted in love, resilience, and shared values.
Today, Southern Sound is a reflection of who we are:

Christelle takes care of the brand, bookings, and all the behind-the-scenes planning.
U-One takes care of our couples on the day — reading the room, guiding the flow, and making sure every moment feels right.
